Enhancing connectivity.
Jacksonville has long sought Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as a low-cost answer to transportation demands. While cheap to implement, the First Coast Flyer has demonstrated high operating costs and snarling traffic that has prevented the system from providing the intended service quality. The GoJAX Vision proposes improving existing services while focusing on unique service opportunities that could benefit from higher quality service but may not suit rail requirements.
Restoration of the originally-proposed frequency of the First Coast Flyer with buses arriving every 10 minutes at peak, 15 minutes off-peak, and 30 minutes at other times, would provide an early framework for ridership to build upon.
Infrastructure improvements upon existing lines, including leveraging FDOT projects, painting dedicated lanes, and expanding service hours could increase brand awareness.
Converting the existing Amazon Shuttle into a Green Line-linked shuttle to Jacksonville International Airport could sooner provide riders with high-quality transit service.
By leveraging existing Transit Signal Priority on Southside Blvd and the I-295 Express Lanes, this line would dramatically reduce travel times for riders across the St. Johns River between Regency Sqare, Avenues Walk, and Orange Park Mall.
This 12.3 mile orbital line would enable fast, high-frequency service along Edgewood Ave and connect to multiple rail and BRT lines.
This 7.5 mile BRT line would strengthen connectivity in the urban core by connecting multiple transit lines to major destinations like UF Health Jacksonville and Stanton College Preparatory School.
This 15.2 mile BRT line would bring frequent transit to one of Jacksonville's fastest growing areas by connecting FSCJ Cecil to Downtown via Normandy Blvd.
This 15.7 mile BRT line would bring frequent transit to one of Jacksonville's fastest growing areas by connecting Cecil Field to the Southwest Corridor.
